Last week was a busy week on the basketball court for the Peterstown Middle School girls.  The varsity team played three games and the junior varsity competed in four.


On Friday night, the Lady Pirates hosted Bluefield and came away with two wins.  The Peterstown varsity girls faced a speedy Buccaneer team but stretched a one point halftime lead to the final 38-29 for the win.  Gracie Mann led all scorers with 16 points and five steals and teammate Kelsey Reed tossed in ten points.  Jaisah Smith scored 11 for Bluefield.


The Peterstown JV girls cruised to a 45-11 victory led  by Alydia Thomas who scored 11 points and had five steals.  Kendra Karnes added eight points and nine rebounds.  Sidney Cozort and Kellie Belcher each ripped the nets for six.  Olivia Copenhaver grabbed 12 rebounds.  Bluefield's Kelan Tabor led her team with five points.


Monday, January 12 found Mercer Christian School at Peterstown where they were defeated by the JV Lady Pirates, 47-4.  Point guard Alydia Thomas combined steals and lay-ups for most of her 17 pioints and BayLeigh Meadows and Olivia Coperhaver both contributed six for the winners.  Megan Boroski led the battle of the boards with seven and Tabitha Kessler grabbed five.


Summers County came to town on Wednesday but left without a win.  In varsity play, Peterstown took a first quarter lead of 15-4 and won handily 57-22.  Taylor Sams was the leading scorer with 16 points and ten rebounds.  Kelsey Reed had 11 points and ten rebounds.  Gracie Mann scored 11 points and Maggie Page pulled down 11 rebounds.   Summer County's Taylor Issacs led her team with 14.


Thye Peterstown JV team, after a slow start, won 48-25.  Alydia Thomas earned 14 points.  Morgan Boroski hit for 12, and sixth grader Kendra Karnes added seven.  Bayleigh Meadows contributed to the Petersown win with outstanding defensive play and Sidney Cozort pulled down eight rebounds.  The leading scorer for the Lady Bobcats was Catherine Pennington with seven.


The Pirates traveled to Bluefield on Thursday evening and added another win to their record.  The Lady Pirates pulled away in the final minutes for a 42-35 win against the Lady Bucs in varsity action.  Gracie Mann connected for 15 points and Chylyn Fox hit three treys for 9 points.  Taylor Sams and Kelsey Reed both contributed six.  Reed led the rebounding with eight.  Autumn Spangler led Bluefield with 13 points.


The JV team from Peterstown won 36-11 behind an evenly balance scoring attack.  Alydia Thomas netted nine.  Megan Boroski scored seven points, and stole the ball eight times.  Morgan Boroski and Olivia Copenhaver each added six points.


The Lady Pirates varsity record stands a 7-3 and the JV record rose to 8-2.  Both teams hit the road this week, traveling to Western Greenbrier on Tuesday and Eastern Greenbrier on Wednesday.
