Peterstown Middle School

The Peterstown Middle School 5th grade students of the month for October are Izzy Walters and Adam Tran.

The 8th grade class at PMS took a trip to the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine as part of a cross curricular novel study of “Rocket Boys” and in conjunction with Career and Technical Education (CTE).  Fly high, kids.  Dream big and shoot for the stars!! 🚀

PMS carpentry students didn’t just put together a table—they built confidence and showed teamwork. It’s sturdy enough to hold a feast and there may be story or two about the lessons learned with every screw stripped.

The PMS National Junior Honor Society members said “so long partner” to the school day and “hello” to trick or treaters at the PES trunk or treat!  

Hot off the Pirate Press Volume 1 Peterstown Middle School

Peterstown Middle School physical education teacher, Jodi Bowers, would like to thank local donors for their help in the purchase and construction of corn hole sets. She received monitary donations from Derrick and Melissa Leslie, Jessica and Hampton Pitzer, Nicole McKlarney Insurance Service, D. Sharp Logging/Mane Street Salon, and J&K Trucking. The cornhole boards were made by the JMHS Carpentry class at the Vo-Tech with their teacher Scotty Taylor overseeing the project. The corn hole bags were purchased through a grant and other school funds. Mrs. Bowers would like to thank everyone for helping the PE program and offering the Peterstown students opportunities to participate in learning skills of the game while looking good doing it.

On Monday, October 20, 2025, a mock disaster drill will take place at James Monroe High School.

This training exercise is part of our district's ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and student safety. During the drill, you may see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel on and around the school campus. Please know that this is a scheduled and controlled exercise—there is no cause for concern.

These drills allow our schools, first responders, and community partners to practice coordinated response procedures, ensuring we are well-prepared for a real emergency.

Mrs. Cottle's STEM classes at Peterstown were enjoying Active Floor. This is an interactive floor where children navigate and play various activity and learning games by using their feet. This was purchase through a grant from Collins Aerospace in Union, WV. Students are loving it! 😍

Student Travel Opportunity!!! 5th-10th grade Monroe County students are invited to attend an informational meeting about a travel opportunity to Japan during the summer of 2027! Meeting will be held at Peterstown PK-8 on October 14th at 5:30 pm. Please use the link below to RSVP to the meeting.

Every day matters. Regular attendance is very important to the academic progress of students. There is a direct relation between a student's daily school attendance and academic performance, work habits, and graduation. In the case your child does miss school, Monroe County Schools now has a convenient online form for submitting attendance excuses. The QR code on the calendar magnet sent home will direct you to the page https://www.boe.monroe.k12.wv.us/forms for turning these in to your child's school. You will need to enter your child's full WVEIS lunch number in order to submit the excuse. If you aren't sure of what that number is, please contact the school, and they can provide it for you.

Peterstown Community in Schools coordinator, Lezli Baler, collaborated with Carillon Family Medicine-Giles and Peterstown Lifeline Church for a donation of back to school supplies. Thank you so much.

If your child is entering 7th grade: ensure your child has the immunizations required, a well child within the last 12 months and dental exam within the last 12 months. If you're not sure, you can verify with the nursing staff or their health portal. We will see you next week!
